Daily Breakfast & Lunch Club

Ensures any child living on the streets in Iringa has food provision on a daily basis as well as an opportunity to access clean water, washing facilities and basic medical care at the Drop in Centre.

Short Term Accommodation

Provides safe accommodation (at the Drop in Centre) to a limited number of vulnerable children currently living on the streets or estranged from their families.  Here, they have a safe place to live, are provided with regular meals, basic medial care and receive daily counselling from FISCH staff.  They also have access o various social clubs that FISCH provides e.g.  FISCH Church, sewing training and the FISCH football team.

Reunification with Families 

Reunites street children and those estranged from their families, with their relatives and where appropriate, in conjunction with local government welfare units, supports them to live with their family members and/or carers. t

Food Parcels

Provides vulnerable children unable to access education and at risk of turning to the streets with a monthky food parcel containing:

- 25kg maize flour 

- 5kg beans

- 5kg rice 

- 1kg sugar 

- 1lt oil

This provides the basic nutrition for a family of 4 for a month.  When parents visit FISCH to collect the food, they are also encourgaed to attend various education and parenting lessons by the FISDCH team.  A food parcel meets the basic food needs of the family, enabling children to stay in education or vocational training and avoid street life or child labour.

School Needs 

Seeks to overcome the economic barrier to primary and secondary education through the provision of a school uniform, stationery and a lunchtime meal which is beyond the financial means of many families.  Also, fund secondary school attendance, for a small number of the most academically promising kids where government provision is not available and accommodation for those most in need.  FISCH staff provide educational support through a learning centre and places at summer camps for those looking to move onto "A-Level" qualifications.

 

Higher Education & Vocational Training 

Enabling a small number of children that evidence the academic ability to pursue diplomas and degrees to transform their life expectations.  Those on the Higher Education programme are supported through College and University by individual sponsors in the area suh as medicine, engineering, education and social work.  For many others, FISCH provides access to vocational training courses across a variety of disciplines, including:

- Mechanics

- Carpentry

- Drivers 

- Sewing 

- Hair & Beauty

 

Overcoming barriers to employment through access to education and training helps transform lives, leads to self sufficiency and delivers benefits to families and communities.

Employment 
A dedicated Education Coordinator based in Iringa, helps young adults leaving education to find employment.  Supporting job searches, compiling CVs and job applications, preparing for and attending interviews.

FISCH Village 

Our long term goal is to build a dedicated Rehabilitation and Vocational Training Centre in Iringa, providing a broad range of education, life skills and vocational trining courses alongside accommodation facilities.  This will provide much greater capacity to help vulnerable children and provide opportunities to transform their life expectations.  We have the land and are now scoping/planning the build in phases.

FISCH Social

A dedicated FISCH Church pastor and team, support the spiritual, social needs of the children and families raising awareness of the love o God.  The importance of good and healthy relationships.  Many children experience significant hardship, including the break up of families and the loss of a parent / parents at an early. FISCH seeks to provide a caring, family environment with support to help children fulfil their potential and live a happier life.
